Field Mechanics need to have basic knowledge of diesel, truck, and car mechanics and be able to apply that knowledge to the job.
 
Requirements 

• They also need basics in electricity and hydraulics. In addition, they are expected to:
• Understand basic computer skills as they relate to the job
• Be able to understand and apply mechanical principles
• Judge the condition of objects or other parts for wear and/or defects
• Have a commitment to maintain trade standards and qualifications by staying current with product development and technology
• Understand visual displays and use and understand measuring devices such as micrometers, gages, and dials
• Identifying and correcting unsafe conditions; upholding safety standards and communicating them to other employees

Other job requirements include:

• Minimum of a high school diploma or GED
• Current and valid Class 3 drivers license
• Qualified to perform electric and acetylene welding
• Valid Heavy Duty Technician certificate
• Valid Automotive Technician certificate
• Ability to be away from home for up to two weeks
• Possession of basic hand tools
• Ability to cover OCS expenses and submit for payment upon return
