Description:

The successful candidate will manage a group of signal design coordinators which are responsible for modifying existing or designing new signal circuits for railway centralized traffic control (CTC), interlocking and highway-railway grade crossing warning system locations. The position will also be required to supervise the work performed by contractors and to provide technical support to installation and maintenance functions within the railway.

Duties:

  • Manages design schedules and budgets.
  • Develops and checks designs of a group of design coordinators.
  • Facilitate onboarding of new design coordinators as well as evaluation(s).
  • Provide field and technical support to install and maintain signal and warning functions within the railway system.
  • Develops the overall design concepts for projects & monitors progress of signal design contractors.
  • Is a technical resource for other department personnel in the area of signal design for installation and construction functions within the railway.

Working Conditions:

  • The position is generally indoors, and requires a significant amount of time working on computers, and reviewing detailed drawings.
  • Need to manage changing project schedules, priorities and deadlines.
  • Intermittent periods of overtime.
  • Required to be on call during system commissioning activities.
  • Will be required at times to travel to outdoor field sites, in varying weather conditions.
  • Will be required to respond to emergency situations as needed. 
     
    Employment Requirements:
  • Bachelors’ Degree in computer, electrical, electronic, or systems engineering or engineering technology.
  • 2 years of experience as Signal Design Coordinator or S&C Technician (An Associates’ Degree & 3 years experience in lieu of the above).
  • Experience must include the design of signal circuits for CTC, interlocking and highway-railway grad cross warning system locations, estimating for signal design projects; scheduling/supervision of the design team & review of design projects to ensure they meet government regulations, AREMA practices.
  • Good computer skills; especially working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word).

Preferred

  • FRA and TC rules and regulations.
  • Experience in computer aided drafting software [Bentley Microstation].
  • Experience in programming logic controllers using Boolean and/or ladder logic.
