S&C Apprentices perform entry-level duties in Signals and Communications.
 
Requirements
They must complete the CN training program for apprentices in this discipline.

Additionally, S&C Apprentices are expected to:

• Learn specifics of Signals and Communications as they relate to the railway
• Possess some basic knowledge of physics and electricity
• Take prescribed training classes at CN to gain industry or work specific knowledge
• Complete other functions as necessary

Other job requirements include:

• Current and valid drivers license
• Computer skills as they apply to the job
• Working shifts, sometimes away from home
• Physical work, sometimes outdoors in extreme weather conditions
• Math skills
• The ability to read plans and meters, and understand the rules that apply to these measuring devices
